How to Choose the Right Flooring for Every Room

February 8, 2025 · 5 min read

Flooring options

With so many flooring options on the market — hardwood, LVP, tile, carpet — choosing the right one for each room can feel overwhelming. We break down the pros and cons of each type to help you make the best decision for your Pittsburgh home.

Hardwood

Timeless and durable, hardwood is great for living rooms and bedrooms. It adds warmth and character and can be refinished multiple times. Avoid in wet areas like bathrooms or basements prone to moisture.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)

Waterproof, affordable, and realistic-looking, LVP is great for basements, kitchens, and bathrooms. It handles Pittsburgh's humidity and temperature swings very well and is easy to maintain.

Ceramic / Porcelain Tile

Best for bathrooms, kitchens, and entryways — tile is extremely durable and water-resistant. Modern large-format tiles can make even small spaces feel expansive.

Carpet

Warm and comfortable in bedrooms and family rooms. Avoid in high-traffic or wet areas. Modern stain-resistant carpets are much easier to maintain than older styles.
